Friday Night Craft Beer Event and People’s Choice Wing Competition!

Please come to downtown New Castle and enjoy craft beer and take part in a People’s Choice Wing Competition!  Buy a strip of tickets and sample a wing from any of the 12-15 Competition Teams that will barbecue wings!  Each participating team will be given 20 pounds of wings and the wings will be in unmarked, identical trays.  You can pick the samples you wish to try and vote for your favorite!   Your fee covers the costs of hosting this event: event insurance, park fees, music and entertainment, staging, tent and table rentals and more. New Castle Charities is the benefactor of the barbecue event. The nonprofit exists to assist area homeowners and improvements to Battery Park.  This is run by volunteers, so please patient as we make adjustments each year to make this a winner for everyone!

Saturday Barbecue Competition and Music Festival

Our gates open at noon, so come on in – you’ll hear some great music, find barbecue for sale, and see competition teams from several area states. The entry fee is $10 per person (fees apply to any person 13 and over). Your entry fee also gets you one beverage ticket- use that ticket for one 16 oz beer, or one glass of wine or two bottles of water!   Your donation e is appreciated. The money goes to cover the thousands of dollars it takes to organize an event like this, and the event is run by volunteers. Any revenue in excess of expenses is used by New Castle Charities to assist local homeowners, make improvements to Battery Park, and host this event next year!

We have a couple of competition teams that have won awards in the past, and while not competing at this competition, they have agreed to come, cook and sell barbecue!  They’re real pit masters and have great food, so dig in!  Additional beverage tickets are for sale inside the event, too.

The teams love to talk about what they do, so please do not be shy! Teams will start cooking late Friday night, and begin turning in their finished products to the trained, certified, Kansas City BBQ Society judges beginning at 12:00 Saturday afternoon. Their final submissions are turned in at 1:30 PM. Interested in judging someday? Contact KCBS at www.kcbs.us and find a training class nearby!
