City of New Castle

Arbor Day Tree Planting

04/28/2017 - 10:30 AM
Location: 3rd Street Extension
Address: 621 Wilmington Road
New Castle, DE 19720

tree3Friday, April 28th is Arbor Day.  In keeping with tradition and as partial fulfillment to retain the Tree City status for New Castle, the Tree Advisory Commission will plant a tree.  The tree has been donated by the Delaware Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program, and will be planted along the Third Street Extension near the Broad Dyke.  The planting will take place at 10:30 a.m. and all are invited to attend.

Arbor Day serves as a reminder of how important trees are for beauty and for our environment.  Regrettably, many street trees have had to be removed over the past several years without replacement and we are slowly but surely losing our tree canopy.  The Washington Street project of last fall is a major step forward and we are happy to report that the 50 trees have survived the winter and appear to be in good health, but there is still a long way to go.  Anyone interested in donating a tree should contact the Tree Advisory Commission for help selecting a tree species or a location; there is no shortage of either.
