The 122-foot long schooner became a proud part of the Nauticus Foundation’s sailing program in 2016. The mission of the vessel is to serve the foundation’s effort to “engage the Hampton Roads community with a focus on delivering transformative experiences to our underserved youth.” The original Virginia was built in the A.C. Brown & Son shipyard; Tottenville, Staten Island, New York; in late 1916, and served in WWI.
