School Property Tax Credit

 

School Property Tax Credit – The State of Delaware offers a senior school property tax credit for those who qualify. To qualify for this credit, you must be age 65 or older by June 30th immediately prior to the beginning of the county fiscal year (July 1). The property for which you are applying to receive the credit must be your principal residence. For individuals who moved to Delaware between 1/1/2013 and 12/31/2017, you must be a resident for at least three years prior to credit application. For individuals moving to Delaware on or after 1/1/2018, you must be a resident for at least ten years prior to credit application. 
THE STATEWIDE DEADLINE IS APRIL 30TH FOR THE UPCOMING TAX YEAR.  THIS CREDIT IS NOT PERMITTED RETROACTIVELY.

Update on Whale Close to Shoreline

 

 

City of New Castle representatives along with state, local, and federal partners are working to remediate the deceased whale in the Bull Hill Area along E 2nd Street. Residents are advised to avoid the area.

“Why I Love the Battery Park!”

 

Students from the William Penn H.S. Media Lab will be at the Battery Park Playground to make videos titled “Why I Love the Battery Park!” In partnership with ONCOR, the Old New Castle Outdoor Recreation Coalition.

Videos will be added to ONCOR’s social media and will be amplified by Elena Delle Donne’s social media.

Affadavit for Absentee Ballots
To obtain an Affadavit for an Absentee Ballot, click on the above link or contact the Absentee Ballot Clerk, Diane Delgado at 302-322-9804, or in person at 220 Delaware Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Added dates and times when Affidavits for Absentee Ballots will be available from the City Office are: Thursday, March 20th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 29th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

April 11th at 12 noon is the deadline to request an Affidavit for Absentee Ballots from the City Administration office, 220 Delaware Street.

April 11th at 4:30 p.m. is the deadline for Absentee Ballots to be turned in to the City Office. Absentee Ballots may also be brought to the polling place on the day of the Election.

 

Upcoming Work Around Floating Pier

 

Please be aware that crews will be on site to complete the work associated with the Floating pier at the Battery Park Wharf during the week of February 24th, 2025. Loud noises associated with the driving of the piles is to be expected. The Wharf will be closed beginning Monday, February 24th.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Emergency crews are actively responding to a tugboat fire on the Delaware River near Penns Beach. Multiple agencies are operating in the area, and the public is urged to avoid the vicinity of 100 West 3rd Street in the City of New Castle.

 

For media personnel, the designated staging location is at the intersection of 2nd Street and Chestnut Street in the City of New Castle. Please proceed to this location for updates and coordination.
