Thank you to all for your patience as Public Works crews have worked diligently to plow and salt the City this morning to ensure all roads are clear. As crews continue to ensure the roads remain clear, there will be no yard waste collection today and will be collected as crews are available next week. Thank you for your patience and understanding. ELECTRIC AND WATER RATE INCREASES
Date Posted: Monday, January 27th, 2025Electric and Water rate increases The Municipal Services Commission (MSC) completed a Cost-of-Service Study and rate designs with Utility Financial Solutions (UFS) a national firm specializing in rate designs and cost projections for municipally owned utilities. The cost to serve our customers continues to increase due to increasing regulations and energy policies set at the state and federal level. The study showed a need for an additional 7.2% revenue for the electric utility and 8.0% increase in water utility revenues in order to maintain the system and levels of service the Commission’s customers have come to expect. MSC has worked with UFS to design rates to minimize the impact to residential customers while ensuring commercial rates remain competitive in comparison to other utilities in the State. (Jan. 22, 2025) – The Delmarva Avian Influenza Joint Information Center announced today that the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Wildlife Services are collaborating to collect sick and deceased snow geese and other wild birds that may have succumbed to the outbreak of avian influenza currently spreading throughout the state. As crews continue to ensure the roads remain clear, trash and recycling collection for the week will be delayed as follows: Trash pickup originally scheduled for Monday, January 6th, 2025 will be collected on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025. Trash pickup originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 will be collected on Thursday, January 9th, 2025. Citywide recycling for this week will be collected on Friday, January 10th, 2025. There will be no yard waste collection this week, it will be postponed until the week of January 13th, 2025.
