This June Delaware Greenways has created the “Honoring Delaware’s Freedom Seekers” Story Map commemorating eight Delaware Freedom Seekers and the journey they traveled. Some of these courageous individuals are well known, some only now receiving their due recognition.

The Juneteenth Celebration Route in the story map, travels from the Old New Castle Courthouse to Wilmington’s Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park on the Jack A. Markell Trail, this virtual experience enables you to traverse the route, in-person or remotely, in the company of those eight important Delawareans who fought for freedom.

Along with the Delaware Juneteenth Association and others, Delaware Greenways also curated a calendar of other Delaware Juneteenth events for you on our website, which includes the Freedom Ride on June 19th. Join Delaware Greenways and Urban Bike Project for this ride to visit historically significant sites from New Castle to the City of Wilmington. There will be a special guest as Ride Marshal: “Bicycle Nomad” Erick Cedeno! His recent ride tracing the Underground Railroad is inspiring!
