Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Emergency Siren Testing

A test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification System will be conducted by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and the Delaware State Police on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.  The sirens should sound at around 7:20 p.m.  The Quarterly Siren Test involves a three-to five-minute sounding of the 37 sirens followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations.  The sirens are located within 10 miles of the Salem/Hope Creek power plants in New Jersey, and are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations.  In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions.

City Press Release: 3/01/2022 City Returning to In-Person Meetings All City of New Castle Council meetings and meetings of other City Boards and Commissions will be returning to live “in-person” meetings beginning March 1, 2022.  For the convenience of residents, City Council meetings may also be viewed online via Zoom technology. Croda Siren Test On Tuesday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m., Croda Atlas Point will be conducting a routine test of our Croda Community Notification System (CCNS). The CCNS is made up of four powerful sirens near our facility (315 Cherry Lane, New Castle, DE 19720) to notify the community in case of a site emergency. The sirens are located: Along Cherry Lane near the Atlas Point facility On Landers Lane near Eisenberg Elementary School On Karlyn Drive near the Police Athletic League (PAL) Garfield Park site On Lambson Lane near Rose Hill Community Center These sirens are very powerful and are meant to be heard throughout our community. However, the test will only last for one minute, and NO ACTION is required for those who hear this test.
