Phragmites Control Program – Spraying Week of September 21st

Phragmites Control Program On Monday, September 21st at 7:30 a.m. treatment will begin in the area around the levies beginning at the Sailing Club.  This work should take about 2 to 3 hours, and will close the walking path in the area.  On Wednesday, September 23rd there is a scheduled helicopter application of herbicide by and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Fish and Wildlife Phragmites Control Program beginning with the Gambacorta Marsh. This application should only take 1 to 2 hours. Both these events are subject to change due to weather and will cause intermittent closure of the walking trail in Battery Park on those dates.  Dates and times are subject to change, check the city website and Facebook page for updates. CITY OF NEW CASTLE PRESS RELEASE August 26, 2020 New Optional Mailing Address for City Residents The City of New Castle today announced that, through an agreement with the United States Postal Service, city residents may now begin using “Historic New Castle” as their mailing address. The city has been concerned for some time about the confusion in the public’s mind between the city and the New Castle 19720 ZIP Code.  Incidents in the 62,000 resident ZIP Code area are invariably reported by the State Police as happening ‘in New Castle” (population 5,200).  This means that many more criminal incidents are reported as happening in New Castle than there should be.  There were 42 such incidents in a one year period. City of New Castle Resident Notice Update Delaware Street Paving Project Date: April 21, 2020 The City has recently been informed that the work set to begin on Wednesday, April 22, between Third and Fourth Streets by City contractor Cirello, has been delayed until the week of April 27, with an expected start date of April 28. At this time any scheduled road closures will be postponed until that week. The City’s contractor Cirillo Brothers will begin replacing the street curbs on Delaware Street between 3 rd Street and 4th Street.   The contractor will need to close one or both lanes of Delaware Street to vehicular traffic between 3 rd Street and 4 th Street each day to perform the work.  The contractor may also close the sidewalk on the active construction side of this section of road where they are working to not endanger the public, but the […]

UPDATE 4/6/20: Delaware City Refining Company will be conducting a series of steam venting, Monday through Friday of this week, April 6th. The venting is scheduled to take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They plan to take all possible steps to minimize the noise levels and apologize in advance for any inconvenience their neighbors may experience. They do not anticipate the steam venting to have the same noise levels as prior venting, therefore there should be a minimal impact. Steam venting is a safety procedure implemented that releases steam through a vent as part of a routine process that we use at the refinery.
